Converting an engine to use cooking oil ... or other alternative fuels ...?

I thought used cooking oil because of "invention nation" on the science channel .... They use a bus to cross the county using oil cooking instead of gas .... I want to convert a motor scooter road worthy of the use of alternative fuels, but do not know the first thing about how ... can someone point me in the right direction? I might even go for the conversion of a car engine averages of family ...

The main contributor in this post has no idea what he speaks. There are scooters diesel there, but they are about two times more expensive than unleaded scooters. I considered buying one but I live in Minnesota and with 6 + months of winter it does not make much sense to spend that much money. Below a link for a book that walks you through how to do it. I looked through this book at my local store. It was quite detailed. Also, here's a link to a diesel scooter, which, according to whats-his-name-it ... does not exist. (Its only $ 900 ... not too bad to try it on before trying to convert a car that is much more expensive)
