What is this movie?

I am trying to remember the name of a movie. She had a British cast, rather it just went as follows: A young boy stays with distant relations / friends of the family for his misdeeds. He has blue pinstripe PJs for most of the show. He managed to will return in time but in the same house (something to do with a clock). He often sees a young girl he befriends ... but thought in reality it is a ghost ... Then she insists that it is the mind and is fully alive. Throughout the film the boy finds himself cast in time, meets the girl in various stages of his life, aided by various problems.
