When drilling for oil, how did they stop the force of an oil "geyser?"?
I'm talking about oil drilling in the 1900s when they would strike and oil is in fact the rush up out of the hole. How You Can they stem the flow of that?
Holes modern pressurized by the weight of the drilling mud. And there are blowout preventer at the top of the hole. Once the BOP is closed mud pressure can be increased to match the tank pressure (the pressure required to rising oil prices) and the hole can be opened again.
